Christmas is coming to town

Ausma Bernotaitė

Some people claim that Christmas is loosing its religious side and its meaning. But others disagree with this idea and think that as times change, the way we celebrate must change too. They believe Christmas to be the most enchanting festival of a year.

On the one hand, the actual meaning of Christmas is the annual symbolic birth of Jesus Christ but most of Christmas-celebrating people forget it. Every year they do their shopping, buy whatever glitzy their eyes see and never stop even for a moment to think about the genuine Christmas idea and spirit. This is a serious reason to blame them for.

The other point of view is that now Christmas has a different spirit than in the older times but it still does. It unites not only families and friends but strangers too. People become more likely to notise those who ask for help. Food and money is collected for the poor. What’s more, Christmas is a rare occasion when everybody stays with their families and friends and visit relatives on the second day of this festival. That is why Christmas is often told to be a traditional family holiday.

In my view, every event is necessary if it causes anything good to happen. Christmas has changed but it still is an excellent holiday when everybody cares about others.
