The Idea of Christmas

When Christmas starts to approach, we keep asking ourselves: what is Christmas? This festival is so important to us that from this question arise other two: whether this event is only a commercial festival today or do we think not only about the material aspects of this event?
Times have changed and the pace of life today is faster than it was in the 19th or 20th century, for example. Often people continue working until the first day of Christmas. There is also a tendency to buy presents on the eve of this festival and because of that people become frustrated by this activity because they find it hard to buy a suitable present on the last day. Consequently, all this rush turns Christmas into a meaningless festival which preserves its significance only for retailers.
Nevertheless, it is interesting to take a look at the past. Earlier the time before Christmas was extremely significant for everyone because of a lot of introversion and quietness. Christmas was a really important religious festival to all the members of the family. Presents were not accepted as the accent of Christmas as it is today. Earlier the most important thing about Christmas was the spiritual meaning, which was determined by the spirit of Advent and by the generosity and friendship of people.
So let us hope that the old traditions of Christmas will be restored. I believe that the spirit of Christmas is created by the sparkling Christmas tree, papaveraceous milk, hot cake with honey on the Christmas table, and the whole family gathered together. As a result of that presents should be seen as a sight of friendship but not as necessity.
