What is Christmas? 2008-12-19, 21:38:58 Inga Jančytė
We all know that Christmas is coming. Shops are full of artificial Christmas trees, toys, presents and candles. Shop windows are decorated with shining angels and twinkling garlands. So, what is Christmas for everyone of us? Is it just a seasonal celebration or just a holiday when you can exchange presents with your family and friends?
When I ask myself this question the answer is always the same – Christmas for me is a family festival. In our days we are so busy that we have no time to be with our family. Christmas is the holiday which gives a family such a possibility – to meet together at home.
I'm sure you can imagine all the family sitting around the fireside, chatting, laughing, drinking tea and eating Christmas biscuits. Outside it is dark and snowflakes are falling but at home it is warm and cosy. The candles are burning and the Christmas tree is twinkling. Isn't it great?
All in all, Christmas for me is a family holiday. Although it is winter, – the coldest time in the year - but this festival is the warmest for me because the lights of the candles, smiling faces, generosity, kindness and friendliness can give out warmth.
